4 Interior Decorating Trends to Look for in 2017
Halloween is over and you know what comes next. The year-end holiday season is always a busy time of meeting with friends, office parties and family gatherings. It all leaves little time for you to be too concerned with your home furnishings and décor.
But you also know what happens in January, when the long, cold winter sets in without a holiday in sight. It’s when many of us look for something, like redecorating the house or condo, to give us a spark in the dark of winter.
So, before the holiday season gets into full swing, it may be worthwhile to start thinking now about your winter redecorating and furnishing so you can hit the ground running when the post-holiday winter blahs set in.
Here are some emerging interior design trends for 2017:
1. Use Your Nooks & Crannies
The red hot housing market here in Toronto is behind more than one design and furniture trend. As more people move into condos for their first home, the search is on for ways to maximize the precious few square feet of living space. Turning small sections of your condo’s livingroom and/or bedroom into dedicated spaces – like book shelves in a corner surrounding an accent chair and reading lamp – can add some of the dimensions of a larger home to any space.
2. Add Colour Splashes
Shades of gray and neutral earth tones have dominated interior colour schemes for a number of years. Accessorizing with bright bold colours, or even painting one wall in a bright primary colour, not only breaks the monotone habit, but it will brighten your winter.
3. Cork the Wall
Another way to break up the subdued tones is with texture. The rich browns of a cork wall look great against whites and grays. They add a quirky element to your design and even give an exterior wall some added insulation.
4. Get Big Bed Heads
After years of neglect, large bed headboards are making a comeback in a big way. Whether you go with classic ‘button-downed’ look, or something more contemporary, larger headboards add a bit of glamour to any bedroom.
Just thinking about all these cool new trends for 2017 has us looking forward to the middle of winter!
