Here’s How to Furnish A Home if You Hate Cleaning
First, we think lots of people will read this post because, well, who really does like housecleaning? Even if you find it relaxing or you just like a clean home, you’d probably still rather spend your time doing something else.
That said, if you’re definitely on the ‘just can’t stand it’ side of the housecleaning equation, there are ways to furnish your home that make it easier and less bothersome to keep it clean and tidy.
We’re not saying you have to run out and completely refurnish your house or condo (just how much do you hate cleaning?!), but if you keep the following tips in mind, you can transform it to an easier-to-clean home over time.
1. Choose Contemporary Furniture Styles Over Traditional
In a nutshell, instead of wood and fabric, think of chrome and leather. Traditional furniture styles tend to be more complex and intricate, with beautiful wood patterns and tufted upholstery. But all those nooks and crannies aren’t so easy to clean.
Contemporary styles tend to be simpler in design, with easier to clean surfaces.
2. Use Area Rugs Instead of Wall-to-Wall Carpet
While you still need to clean the entire floor regardless of whether it’s covered or not, wall-to-wall carpet means vacuuming and/or getting stains out across the whole floor. Area rugs still give you the comfort of carpet where you need it, with easier to clean flooring elsewhere.
3. Have Lots of ‘Hidden’ Storage
Having lots of places for your things is a great idea in any décor. But, instead of open shelving and glass display cabinets, an easier-to-clean décor will use chests, curious and cabinets with solid doors so that whatever is behind them stays out of sight, regardless of how messy it might be.
These tips are just a start.
But hopefully, they get you thinking of your own ways to furnish your home to make easier to keep clean (or at least just look like it’s clean!)
