4 Home Decor Trends for 2019
We love the end of the year for more than just enjoying the holiday season. Each year-end brings with it all the great predictions for home decor trends and 2019 is almost here!
2019 Interior Design Trends
We’ve studied trends from a variety of sources. If nothing else, the new year will bring a wider variety of new directions than usual to help inspire professionals and do-it-yourself interior decorators alike. Let’s get right to the trends!
- Colours of the Year – To get an idea of what we mean about more changes than normal in décor trends, you need go no further than colour trends. For example, Benjamin Moore’s recent colours of the year, including 2017’s Shadow and 2018’s Calienté, were dark and dramatic, perhaps best suited for accent walls. But their 2019 colour of the year, Metropolitan, can work as a backdrop for home furnishings all around the house. Other paint colours of the year seem to support the trend, including Dulux’s spiced Honey, and Sherwin Williams’ Cavern Clay.
On the other end of the spectrum, it looks like recent perennial favourites, like millennial pink and matte black, are on their way out.
- Smaller, Multi-Purpose Furniture – The rise in the popularity of condo living in Toronto continues to exert its influence in home furnishing trends, especially for living rooms. Pieces like convertible sofa beds, multifunctional coffee and side tables, and versatile area rugs, will be popular in 2019.
- Curved Furniture – So when’s the last time you thought of anything but rectangular sofas and occasional tables? Curved furniture in all design styles, from traditional to mid-century modern, will help break the square look in 2019.
- Tribal Patterns – Here’s another break from geometric shapes. Look for more ethnic and tribal patterns for furniture fabrics and wallcoverings in 2019.
