7 Home Décor Ideas for Summer
We Torontonians can be a fickle bunch. We spend the entire winter complaining about the weather and how the snow and ice messes up the house. Then, at the first sign of nice weather, we head to the cottage, go on road trips, or backpack through Europe for the entire summer.
But, for those of us who enjoy summer in the city, we don’t have to miss out on all the summery sights and surroundings. By putting some simple, bright, light, just right summer home decorating tips to work in your home, it can feel like you’re on vacation every day.
1. Add Blasts of Colour Throughout
From fresh flowers in the living room, to bright fruit bowls in the kitchen and vibrant graphic prints on all the walls, the extra colour makes it feel more like you’re at the beach and not in the suburbs.
2. Add a Bit of ‘Tiki’ to the Bar
Whether it’s a console, credenza or you have a full bar, decorate it like it’s on the beach and add the fixings for fruity and refreshing summer drinks. Mojito’s anyone?
3. Decorate the Fireplace
OK, so it might have been overused this winter and spring, but you won’t be using the fireplace for a few months now. Instead, use it to frame some dried flowers, or add a big, bright ornament to lighten up the dark space.
4. Take it Outside
There’s no reason your breakfast room needs to stay indoors. If you have an enclosed porch, umbrella or other cover, take the dinette furniture outside and start every morning in the fresh air.
5. Throw Some Pillows
Onto your couch, loveseat, accent chairs, even on the floor. They’re great to flop on and they’ll help you add even more summer colours and vibes.
In a way, transforming your décor for the summer is the same as you taking out your summer wardrobe. You like to wear different outfits in different seasons and you’ll appreciate it when your décor does too.
