The Benefits of Bench Seating in the Dining Room
When it’s time to furnish the dining room, most of us turn straight to the idea of a table surrounded by individual chairs.
And why not? It’s been the standard dining configuration for thousands of years and it offers the most versatility in style, including elegant, traditional and modern.
But there’s an option for your dining room seating that is worth considering, especially if you live in a smaller home or condominium apartment. And it can be more elegant than you think.
Bench seating around your dining table can not only add different twist to your décor, but it can offer a few other benefits too.
1. More Seating
The most apparent advantage of bench seating is that it can offer more of your guests a place to sit. A bench that seats three will take up the same space of two single chairs.
2. Less Clutter
Extra pieces of furniture can make even the largest rooms feel cluttered. Bench seating around your dining table reduces the number of individual seats and can give the entire room a ‘cleaner’ look.
3. More Intimate & Interactive
By letting more people sit comfortably at the table, in closer proximity to each other, it makes it easier to interact.
4. Lots of Options
You’re not limited in your choices to a single flat bench. You can choose a number of benches, a small upholstered couch and/or L-shaped bench, with or without seat backs.
5. Storage Space
One feature offered by some dining benches that many people don’t consider is the possibility of added storage space under the bench.
6. Versatile Seating
When the dinner party shifts to the living room after dessert, you can bring along your bench to quickly add a lot of seating without moving a lot of chairs.
Bench seating at your dining table isn’t for everyone or every décor. But you shouldn’t dismiss it without considering the benefits it offers.
