3 Furniture Ideas to Help You Declutter a Room

  • Blog

Do you declutter your living room and/or bedroom regularly? Do they feel clutter-free afterwards? If they don’t, it’s not necessarily because you didn’t do a good job. To properly declutter a room takes more than just clearing away the ipads, magazines and remote controls from the coffee table.

In fact, the living room, family room or bedroom furniture you choose may not let you ever make a room feel decluttered.

Try These Furniture Ideas to Declutter a Room

The furniture in any room can work for or against how cluttered the room feels. It’s not a bad thing either way. The right kind of clutter can make a room warm and inviting.

But if you would prefer less clutter, but can’t seem to ever make that happen, consider the following furniture ideas.

  1. Choose Furniture that Does Double Duty – If you’re always looking for storage space, and end up adding things like shelves or consoles to get it, look for furniture that solves your problem.

In the living room, a serving cart can work as an occasional table, bar cart or simply get rolled out of the way.

  2. Look for Accessories that Don’t Take Up Floor Space – One great way to feel less cluttered is to have more living space. But it’s not like you can just move the walls out a touch. Instead, try to choose options with a smaller footprint.

In the living room, having lots of occasional tables to support large lamps can gobble up lots of precious floor space. Try standalone floor lamps and fewer tables.

  3. Use the Space Under Furniture – If your living room is dominated by floor to ceiling bookshelves, or your bedroom is crowded with benches, armoires and dressers, consider using the space under furniture, like under an end table in the living room, or under the bed in a bedroom, to let you remove some of the furniture pieces that may be adding to the clutter.
