3 Ways To Make a Room Look Larger
Whether you live in a small downtown condo or a large suburban home, you want to have as much space as possible. Of course, adding more space can be an expensive proposition.
If you wish you had more space, but you’ve run out of room, the next best thing is to make your room look like it has more space.

How to Make Your Room Look Bigger
The following ideas cost you little or nothing (we’re not even going to tell you to use smaller bedroom furniture or paint the room in lighter colours!) and are all possible DIY projects.
- Undock Your Furniture – In the living room, a balanced placement of your key furniture pieces is crucial for the look and feel of the room. Many of us push just about every piece of furniture, except for the coffee table, against the wall. That can make the perimeter of the room feel crowded and the overall space of the room feel smaller.
Try “undocking” your furniture from the wall. One way is to place a sofa parallel to a front window, but with enough room between the sofa and the window to let you walk behind it and take in the view. - Make Your Curtains Taller – Another standard of DIY interior design habit is to mount curtain rods just above window frames. There’s nothing wrong with that, but if you move the curtain higher up on the wall, it can make the entire room feel taller. And make sure your curtain rod is wider than the window so when you open the curtains, they rest outside the window and let in every possible ray of light.
- Store Any Furniture You Don’t Use – Especially if you haven’t redecorated in a while, there may be pieces of furniture that, if you think about, you don’t really use. It may be an extra accent chair, that antique table you got for a steal, or the cabinet full of knick-knacks. In any case, one of the best ways to make any room look larger is to minimize the amount of furniture in it.
