3 Tips to Furnish & Decorate a Small Space
The old stand-by decorating tricks for small spaces still work well, But here are a few you might not have considered.
- Look Up, Way Up – If you do, you will spot lots of unused space in even the smallest apartment or condo. By using tall bookshelves, even floor-to-ceiling varieties, you’ll add usable space without taking away floor space.
Also look for other typically underused spaces, like a corner, where a corner-curio can add more space than it uses. - ‘Audit’ Your Furniture & Accessories – You love your stuff, but loving too much of it can make even a larger space feel cramped. We’re not suggesting going full-tilt minimalist here. But let’s say you love plants. If you can’t see the TV for the forest, do an ‘audit’ of your plants and keep only those worthy of the precious space they occupy.
- Keep Things in Balance – It’s a mistake to furnish a limited space with the smallest occasional tables, the tiniest couch and a not much more than a bar stool for a dining table. Instead, balance large and small items. A bigger sofa might work as a great focal point for the space. Or larger tables can give you lots of place for your things, and even do double-duty as a workspace.
