What is A Transitional Furniture Style

You are an interior designer. Whether you own or rent, whether you live in a house, condo or apartment, at some point have to decide on the furnishing and layout of your living space, and that means interior design.

While your personal tastes and style preferences will decide how you furnish and decorate your home, the furnishings and accessories you choose from will generally fall into one of more design styles that can include traditional, contemporary, rustic, casual and art deco, among many others.

But don’t despair if your home décor style doesn’t fall neatly into one of those categories. If your preferences include a mix of styles, particularly between the warmth and comfort of traditional styles with the cleaner lines of a contemporary decor, then there’s an interior design style just for you.

The Transitional Style

Like the name implies, a transitional décor falls in the middle of traditional and contemporary styles. It also has the flexibility to include elements from most other styles while remaining transitional. In other words, while that antique rocker might not work in a contemporary décor, you can find a place for it in a transitional décor, particularly if it fits your colour scheme and/or balance of styles.

The versatility of transitional décor makes it one of the most popular interior design styles. It let’s you combine furniture and accessories that are familiar and comfortable with pieces that you might find more inspiring and eclectic. And it works equally well in the living room, dining room and bedroom.
