Chest vs Dresser: Which Do You Need For Your Bedroom?
When you are designing your bedroom, it can be hard to determine whether you need a chest or dresser. Both serve many benefits and can complement your bedroom design nicely. However, they are different and can be used for different reasons.
So, here is how to determine whether you should get a chest or dresser for your bedroom.
What Is A Dresser?
A dresser tends to be waist high with a mirror on top. They usually have 6-8 drawers that can be the same size or vary in size. They are also primarily used for clothing, not so much for general storage.
What Is A Chest?
A chest is more universal that a dresser and can be as tall as 5 feet. They tend to be not very wide and take up less floor space. But, they don’t usually have a mirror connected and don’t have much counter space. They can also be used for general bedroom storage, such as extra blankets, linens, towels, and pillows.
How To Choose A Chest vs Dresser
Deciding which one you need can be challenging. However, here is a general guideline of when to choose a chest or dresser.
Chest:
- You need extra general bedroom storage
- Your room is not spacious
- A mirror is already in your room
- You have a large closet that can fit most of your clothing
Dresser
- You need extra counter space
- You need a mirror in your room
- You do not have a large closet and need extra clothing space
- If you have a large room and need to fill up space
Once you have established if you are purchasing a chest or dresser, you can choose the size, style and colour you want. This way, your chest or dresser can complement the interior design of your room and give you the storage you need.
