How To Care For Leather Furniture
Leather furniture is an investment in style. It is sleek, easy to clean, and durable. Since it can be expensive, you want to make sure you care for the leather to make it last as long as possible. Remember, although leather is durable, it can still be damaged and scratched.
Here are a few ways to care for leather furniture.
Avoid Using Soap & Detergent
Leather needs to be cleaned with leather-specific cleaners. Using dish soap or detergents, no matter how gentle they are, can damage the leather. It can become brittle and dry over time because it will strip the leather down slowly. Make sure to purchase a cleaner that is specifically made for leather to avoid any damage or deterioration.
Avoid Placing It In Sunlight
Chances are your home has some nice windows that let in sunlight. And, this can be a massive perk to your home. But, when leather sits in direct sunlight, it can dry and crack over time. This becomes noticeable on the leather as you will see distinct cracks forming on the cushions or arm rests. It is wise to also not place leather furniture near any air conditioner units or radiators. They can dry out the leather and create cracks as well.
Blot Spills
Do not, under any circumstances, rub spills off of leather. Be sure to blot any spillage with clean cloth towels or paper towels. Rubbing any spills can damage the leather, leaving it with permanent stains. Leather can also absorb the spillage if it is not blotted.
Use Leather Protectors
If you want to give your leather furniture that extra bit of protection, use a leather protector. These come in the form of sprays that you simply apply directly onto the leather. You can use it on new or old leather furniture. Try to keep the leather dust free and occasionally wipe it down with a barely damp cloth or paper towel.
