Last-Minute Christmas Decorating Ideas
We all have at least one in our lives. People whose homes are perfectly decorated for Christmas at least a month before the holidays. Not that it’s a competition or anything (right?!), but, if you’re planning to host a gathering over the holidays, you want your place to look its best too. Just in case you didn’t find enough time to decorate until the day before your guests arrive, we’ve put together the following last minute Christmas decorating ideas for you. But they can work for you even if your house was perfectly decorated a month ago!
- Capture the Light
If you have a mason jar, put a string of small christmas tree lights, along with some tinsel, pine cones, tree branches, and/or whatever you find that works, into it and turn ‘em on. First decoration: done.
- Glitter Cones
This one makes a great coffee table or dining table centerpiece. Get some pine cones from your yard or a neighbour’s. Spray them with gold, silver, red and/or green glitter paint. Let them dry and put them in a large decorative bowl. That’s it, you’re done. You can add some tree decorations, tinsel or anything that works, to kick this one up a notch.
- Pine Tree in a Vase
Get your largest and/or nicest glass vase. Cut some pine branches from your tree to fit in the vase. Arrange them in the vase. Another hand-made Christmas decoration done.
You can add pine cones and red ribbon for more colour. If you have the time, strip some pine branches bare, spray paint them white, red, green, gold or silver, put it in the vase and add small decorations to the ends of the branches.
If you prefer, fill the vase with Christmas ornaments.
- The Folding Ladder Tree
If you want, this one can take the place of an actual Christmas tree. Get the ladder from the garage. Set it up in the living room in its familiar “A” shape. String your tree lights all over the legs and steps. Hang ornaments on the inside of the ladder, from the top rung on down, with different lengths of string. If you don’t mind having a coloured ladder for your summer chores, you can paint it too.
- A Festive Area Rug
If you don’t have time for anything else, hit the stores or the internet and find yourself a holiday-themed area rug. It will put your entire room into the holiday spirit even if you don’t have any other decorations.
