How to Make Your Home Office Decor Work

Regularly working from home isn’t the exception it once was. But having a dedicated workspace remains as rare as ever. For many, the dining table continues to be the home office of choice.

But you’ll improve your productivity, and free-up your dining table for things like eating dinner, by creating a dedicated office space and applying some of the following home office décor ideas.

3 Ideas for the Décor of Your Home Office

Coming up with a décor for your office isn’t a black and white decision. Everyone has their own preferences for the space in which they work. While you might not agree with some of the individual points listed below, hopefully they will all help you create a home workspace that helps you get the job done, while still being part of your home.

  1. Let in as Much Natural Light as Possible – Aside from a large worktop, one of the reasons that the living room and dining room are popular places to work is because they usually have lots of natural light. You should consider this one even if you like a darker work area because daylight helps us be more alert and get more done.

  2. Indulge Yourself – Furnishing and decorating a home office is always a challenge – To help give yourself some direction, think about things you like to do, hobbies, etc.. For example, if you like antiques, maybe you can find a vintage roll-top desk. Or if you have a green thumb, a plant stand might make a nice divider.

  3. Take a Cue from Your Existing Home Décor – There’s nothing wrong with extending your current décor right into your office. It can make it feel more like home. If you don’t want it to reflect the home exactly, add a signature piece, like a patterned rug, round area rug, or pendant lamp. It will continue to resemble the rest of the house, but also have a distinct look and feel.
