5 Ways to Use Area Rugs
Area rugs are one of the most versatile floor coverings ever. Usually used to give something soft underfoot while allowing the beautiful flooring underneath to appear around the edges, area rugs can do so much more for a room.
1. Hide Imperfections in Your Floor
Wide open hardwood floors are stunning. Unless they’ve suffered a bit of damage. An area rug, even a small one in the center of a living room, cannot only hide the problem, but they can add a refreshing feature to your décor.
2. Layer an Area Rug on Carpet
Area rugs aren’t only for bare floors. if you chose a relatively neutral tone for your broadloom, you can add a dash of color and design with an area rug over the carpet. And they can hide stubborn stains on the carpet just like they do for hard floors.
3. Section a Room
Whether on bare floors or carpeted areas, an area rug can help you create a separate space in a room where none exists. For example, in a smaller condo, an area rug can be used to mark off a workspace in the corner of a living room or bedroom.
4. Add or Reduce Texture
The complex balance of colors, materials, and accessories that goes into a great room design might need a little tipping in one direction or another. If your room has just a few too many monotone pieces, or it feels very busy due to lots of different textures and patterns, an area rug can return some equilibrium to the room’s décor.
5. It Doesn’t Have to Stand Out at All
Maybe you’re absolutely happy with your décor and you only want to hide a stain. Or maybe you want to protect your broadloom by using area rugs in high traffic areas, without changing the look of the room. When buying your carpet, you can buy extra pieces and have their edges bound so they can be used for area rugs.
