5 Interior Design Trends for 2021
The events of 2020 have greatly influenced the trending design styles of the New Year. Among the overall trends are a move to natural materials, more indoor plants and calming neutral colour palettes.
Warmer Neutral Tones – Neutral décor palettes have been a strong trend in recent years. But in 2021, the shift is on away from cooler neutral blues, towards warmer, natural tones. Think earth tones and lighter woodgrain colours.
Blue! – One of the reasons for the popularity of neutral palettes is that they provide the perfect backdrop for bolder statements with furniture. In contrast to the shift to warmer neutrals, living room and bedroom furniture, like accent chairs, are going cool blue!
Gray! – If we didn’t confuse you enough with the flip between “warmer tones” and “blue”, we’ll throw one more at you. Refined, classic designs in gray, for living room, dining room and bedroom furniture, aren’t going away soon.
Clutterless – Maybe it was all the uncertainty and confusion of the past year, but we’re noticing a move to clutter-free living spaces in home design. Of course, that lends itself well to smaller spaces, but homeowners are opting for more airy, open space even in larger rooms.
Integrated Spaces – The past year saw the rise not only of the home office but of home workout spaces too. Often banished to the basement or behind closed doors, the trend now is to integrate the office, exercise space and living spaces. It’s not unusual to walk into someone’s living room or family room and see a set of weights or a corner set aside because it offers a great backdrop for zoom calls.
