How To Take Proper Care of Your Furniture
All furniture needs to be properly maintained in order for it to have a long lifetime. This includes dining room tables, couches, and chairs. When you invest good money into quality furniture, you want to ensure that it is taken care of. However, many times we overlook how regularly we should be putting time into cleaning our furniture.
So, let’s go over what each piece of furniture in your home needs on a regular basis.
Leather Furniture
This type of furniture can last you a very long time if it is taken care of. Leather furniture is very durable which makes it easy to clean. If there are any spills on your leather, simply wipe the spill with a cloth or sponge. Use mild soap instead of harsh detergents to prevent any leather damage. Dusting is an overlooked maintenance tactic for leather furniture. Dusting the cushions every few days will help keep the cushions clean and improve the overall appearance. Vacuuming should also be part of your maintenance routine once a week. It is a great way to remove dust and dirt and keep the leather in good condition.
Wooden Furniture
Wooden furniture is not only extremely popular but can be very expensive. Therefore, you want to ensure it is properly taken care of. Dusting frequently is one way to keep the surfaces clean and free of debris. You could use a moist cloth to clean the surfaces of the wood with some warm water to prevent any harsh chemicals from coming into contact. Polishing or waxing your wooden furniture can help enhance its appearance, making it appear shiny and new. Direct sunlight or heat can cause the wood to deteriorate. So try to avoid putting your table right in the sunlight or ensure there are curtains that will prevent continuous exposure.
Upholstery
For any piece of upholstery, you should vacuum it a few times a week. It prevents dirt and dust build-up that will give the furniture a dirty or old appearance. Another tip that many overlook are reorganizing. In many instances, every couch user has a designated spot on the couch. But, this can put a strain on the fabric and cause areas to stretch due to excessive use. Reorganizing seat cushions is a great way to prevent wear and tear. If you really want to give the upholstery that extra protection, a slipcover is a good option. The slipcover will protect the actual couch from any dirt and dust, and can also act as stain-resistant.
Glass Furniture
Glass furniture is becoming more and more popular. So, we need to know how to take care of it, especially since it is easily dirtied. Dust and stains are very apparent on glass surfaces. Therefore, glass furniture needs to be thoroughly wiped down on a day-to-day basis to keep its shine. If any stains come in contact with the table, make sure you clean it immediately with a detergent that is specifically used for glass surfaces.
